General Counsel

Hours: Full Time

Location: Richmond, VA

Rate: $132,200+ great benefits!

Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee the general counsel team in providing IMB leadership with general legal advice and strategic analysis regarding home office and worldwide field operations, in order to ensure legal sufficiency of IMB policies and operations and recommend actions that facilitate the strategic advancement of IMB’s mission.

Provide legal counsel regarding risk management of IMB operations and ministry objectives, including substantive areas such as:

-- Administering legal issues related to the sale and purchase of worldwide real property holdings, and guide process of repatriation of sales proceeds to the United States

-- Analyzing and approving significant contracts, assisting in negotiation of contract terms, and developing and regulating use of contract templates for recurring situations

-- Assisting in management of intellectual property portfolio, securing copyright and trademark registrations, and negotiating intellectual property licenses

-- Facilitating risk management through training of management in applicable laws, analysis of appropriate insurance coverage, and assisting in development of crisis team protocols

Provide legal counsel regarding employment and other human resource matters, including discrimination laws, employee benefits, privacy law, immigration law, employee contracts, investigations of policy violations, and various human resource classification decisions.

Deliver legal guidance related to the formation and ongoing operation of NGOs and business as mission entities internationally, to achieve compliance with applicable law and facilitate strategic ministry, self-sustaining operations, and preservation of IMB resources.

Oversee legal interaction with outside parties. Direct litigation to protect ministry assets. Act as liaison with government agencies with oversight of company operations. Manage network of outside counsel relationships both domestically and internationally. Allocate work to outside firms.

Participate as requested in Core Team and trustee leadership meetings to provide legal and strategic advice on appropriate non-profit corporate governance and needed policies.

Supervises work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for final decisions on hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.

​Requirements:

General Counsel experience including management and employment law experience more than 8 years.

Juris Doctorate Degree from ABA accredited law school

Virginia Bar Member

Advanced analytical skills - Able to identify trends and anomalies in complex data and make proper inferences from findings.

Strong quantitative skills - Able to design, develop and implement tools to accomplish job responsibilities.

Advanced strategic skills – Able to assess and develop business strategies, considering internal capabilities and constraints, competitive dynamics, and external forces.

Strong Leadership skills – Able to build team relationships; identify, gather, and evaluate relevant information needed to make informed decisions; and navigate through ambiguity, obstacles, and multi-faceted (and at times contradictory) individual and organizational goals.

Strong cross-cultural skills – Able to work with professionals and other individuals from different countries and cultures to secure the relevant information to provide applicable legal and strategic advice.

Advanced presentation skills - Able to portray findings and recommendations in a variety of visual and written formats. Strong analytical skills - able to identify trends and anomalies in complex data and make proper inferences from findings.
