Chief Legal Officer

Serves as Chief Legal Counsel to Virginia Hospital Center and its affiliated entities as needed. Position includes negotiation and documenting of physician recruitment and retention matters, employment agreements, administrative independent contractor agreements, teaching and other administrative stipend arrangements, leases, and service agreements for a multitude of arrangements; including clinical services, equipment, vehicles, administrative support services; provide advice and guidance on regulatory compliance issues such as IRS, Stark, Fraud and Abuse, DOH, JCAHO, and tax exemption; review and revision of bylaws, policies and procedures; matters relating to real estate, zoning and leasing issues; attending board and committee meetings; provide counsel on medical staff matters(disruptive physicians, chain of command, peer review, disciplinary matters, credentialing and privileging, and medical staff investigations); managing patient/ legal issues, including informed consent, substitute decision-making, refusal of care; involvement in risk management and patient safety issues; and coordinate matters with outside counsel.

Education: A Doctorate Degree in Law is required. A license to practice law is required, Commonwealth of Virginia License is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of seven years in healthcare law is required. Experience in healthcare compliance, corporate law, and contracting is preferred.
