Savannah River Remediation, an LLC of AECOM, is seeking a General Counsel to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site.

The General Counsel provides strategic direction and oversight for the company’s legal affairs department and staff. Determines the legal posture of the organization. Ensures business practices, policies, and dealings of the organization meet regulatory requirements to protect the organization from legal action. Manages the organization’s defense, the interpretation and preparation of legal documents/contracts and provides counsel to management.

Serves as chief legal counsel and thought partner to the President, executive staff and Board of Managers.

Manages legal affairs staff.

Provides selection and oversight of outside legal counsel.

Communicates and coordinates with DOE-SR office or LLC affiliates on legal matters of mutual interest or concern.

Provides review and assurance of legal and regulatory compliance pertaining to the prime contract or subcontract negotiations and administration, contest of claims and protests, litigation management, and compliance with all laws and regulations.

Coordinates response requests for release of information outside the company to ensure that no proprietary, patentable or classified information is improperly released.

Oversees the company’s ethics program.

May act as secretary to the Board of Managers and provides legal support regarding corporate actions, conflicts of interest, and compliance with laws and regulations.

Manages the defense of the organization in lawsuits, claims, and hearings, as well as the prosecution of lawsuits on behalf of the organization against others.

Establishes and adheres to departmental budget.

Interfaces with DOE, NRC, SCDHEC, Board of Managers and other stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Researches and evaluates risk factors regarding business decisions.

Applies effective risk management techniques and offers proactive advise on legal matters.

Minimum Requirements

Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school and admitted to practice in at least one state

15+ years of progressive corporate legal experience

Due to the nature of the work, the candidate must be a US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications

Member of South Carolina Bar or limited license to practice in South Carolina

Demonstrated leadership experience including previous direct people management

Experience working for or with DOE, DOD or other related government bodies
