Job Summary
 

Responsible for the legal affairs of the entire organization. Leads and develops the legal strategy of the Company by assisting the business with developing processes and procedures to mitigate risk and support the Company’s strategy. Acts as a strategic business partner by providing legal advice and oversight in complex aspects of the business, including contracts, acquisitions, ethics, privacy, handling of subpoenas, legal filings and any other legal topics.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 

Essential Functions
Provides legal counsel to the executive team of Border States Electric, as well as the Board of Directors.
Leads and develops the corporate legal strategy for the Company as well as the roles and responsibilities of the Legal Department within the Company.
Acts as a strategic business partner by providing legal advice and oversight in complex aspects of the business, including contracts, acquisitions, ethics, privacy, handling of subpoenas, legal filings and any other legal topics.
Leads all strategic initiatives for management of contracts.
Identifies, develops and implements new contract policies and processes as well as manages the contract change control process.
Develops the negotiation strategy and participates on the negotiation team on complex contractual matters.
Engages with the business to ensure implementation of contract terms and contract compliance.
Serves as lead contact for all communication with various business disciplines for resolution of contract issues and disputes.
Maintains accurate records for all contacts and renewals.
Assists business with the negotiation and legal review of business acquisitions.
Analyzes new law, regulation and contract trends for potential impact on the business as well as the Legal department goals and objectives.
Educates and informs the business about legal concepts and application to the current business environment.
Coordinates the renewal and management of all lines of insurance.
 

 
Non-Essential Functions
Engages outside counsel as needed to assist with legal issues across the Company and manage all external legal support relationships.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.
 

 
QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a minimum of a law degree from an accredited law school and have at least 10 years of work experience.
Experience in a major law firm or corporate legal department with increasing responsibility is required.
Wholesale distribution and broad business experience is preferred.
Requires the ability to read, write and speak in English.
Prefer advanced working knowledge of PC for Windows, Microsoft Office and/or SAP.
