The Role:

The General Counsel will provide expert, strategic legal advice to management, set internal governance policies, and manage the impact and risk of external factors. They will support a rapidly growing real estate company, and accordingly, will work heavily on real estate transactions, corporate agreements, and managing external relationships related to property management. Experience in-house and with employment matters are appreciated.

What You'll Do:

    • Draft, review, and negotiate real estate agreements (i.e. leases for residential properties, commercial spaces, management contracts, etc.), vendor services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, LOIs and other related documents.
    • Project-manage real estate transactions by working closely with our real estate teams and external counsel
    • Advise senior leadership on legal strategy and risk issues associated with the company’s business operations, regulatory compliance, and real estate transactions.
    • Establish and maintain internal legal processes and advise on all legal matters, including personnel matters.
    • Advise on company employment matters and policies.
    • Partner effectively with all departments, corporate counsel, and other advisors.
    • Assist with diligence processes related to deals.
    • Manage and review reports and other materials related to potential liabilities.
    • Resolve disputes with landlords, contractors, tenants and/or subtenants with respect to property management issues.

Who You Are:

    • Experience in real estate.
    • J.D. with excellent academic credentials.
    • 5-8+ years experience at top-tier law firm and/or in-house experience.
    • Admission to California bar or ability to register as in-house counsel.
    • Legal experience drafting and negotiating commercial real estate agreements.
    • Experience negotiating documents directly with landlords and opposing counsel.
    • Excellent negotiation, oral, and written communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
    • Ability to manage tight deadlines and handle conflicts with diplomacy.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast paced work environment, exhibiting flexibility and creativity in dealing with novel legal issues and complex transactions.
    • Strong orientation toward problem solving and decision-making in an open, collaborative, and non-political environment.
    • Growth mindset and flexibility.Eagerness to iterate quickly and adapt.
    • Strong relationship builder.
