Halifax Health is seeking a General Counsel within our Legal Department.

Summary
This individual will function as general legal counsel to Halifax Health Medical Center and its affiliates. Will provide corporate legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Commissioners.

Job Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree or equivalent from an ABA accredited law school.
Membership in the Florida Bar Association.
Experience in general corporate matters with at least three years experience in the practice of law.
Demonstrate excellent sills in legal writing and research, good communications ability and interpersonal relationships.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Performs the usual and customary duties of General Counsel to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Commissioners.

Meet with Medical Incident Committee and coordinate activities related to medical liability cases.

Advise the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Commissioners as to the impact of laws and regulations upon hospital policies, programs and proposed transactions.

Review and prepare legal documents for Halifax Medical Center and its affiliates and provide assistance and/or advice to Administrative Staff in negotiating on behalf of the hospital.

Responsible for retention of outside counsel as approved by the Board of Commissions, monitor matters referred to them and review their billings.

Coordinate submissions and appearances before the legislative or executive bodies of the local, state or federal governments.

Provide educational services to the Board of Commissioners, Administration and staff of the organization on an as needed basis.

Review and initiate legal action in the process of collection on patient accounts.

Provide legal counsel directly to the members of the Board of Commissioners as it relates to hospital matters.

Review all contracts in excess of $10,000 or at the request of the Chief Executive Officer.

Other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer or Board of Commissioners of the organization.
