Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), with primary responsibility to assist the CLO in managing the legal affairs of the organization. Licensed attorney that provides legal consultation and services to one or more regional hospitals of the Cleveland Clinic health system and serves as the legal advisor to several business and clinical units of the Cleveland Clinic. Maintains positive contact with business and clinical units and observes confidentiality in legal matters.

Responsibility to assist the CLO in managing the legal affairs of the southern region regional hospitals as well as serve as practice group chair of the Hospital Operations legal practice group. Licensed attorney that provides legal consultation and services to one or more regional hospitals of the Cleveland Clinic health system and serves as the legal advisor to several business and clinical units of the Cleveland Clinic. Maintains positive contact with business and clinical units and observes confidentiality in legal matters.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as the primary legal advisor for one or more regional hospitals as well as for other significant business and clinical units of the organization. Ensures that timely responses are provided to requests for legal advice in the attorney's assigned area.
Provides supervision, advice, mentoring and guidance to attorneys and other staff members working within the Attorney’s area(s) of responsibility.  Delegates matters as appropriate.
Participates in budget processes and manages outside counsel on matters falling within the attorney's area(s) of responsibility in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Maintains expertise in assigned subject matter areas. Advises and trains appropriate members of the department on legal developments impacting the attorney's areas of expertise and actively seeks out opportunities to bring the organization into compliance with those areas of the law.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from ABA accredited law school.
CERTIFICATIONS:

Member in good standing of the Ohio bar or ability to become a member of the Ohio bar within a reasonable period of time.
COMPLEXITY OF WORK:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. 
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
WORK EXPERIENCE:

More than ten years of comparable experience in the substantive legal area of law that is designated as the attorney's area(s) of expertise, preferably in both a law firm as well as an in-house setting.
Ten years of successful experience managing internal staff as well as outside counsel preferable.
Minimum two years of experience in a healthcare setting highly desirable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Manual dexterity to operated office equipment.
Normal or corrected vision, hearing and speech. 
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
