General Counsel

The Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs (SVP, Legal Affairs) serves as General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer for Cedars-Sinai. S/he will oversee or handle major legal matters on behalf of Cedars Sinai .  The SVP, Legal Affairs will be responsible for working collaboratively with other executives and clinical leaders across the organization to ensure that practices across the organization are fully compliant with all applicable laws and best practices.
 
The ideal candidate for the SVP, Legal Affairs role will have General Counsel experience or equivalent partner experience in a law firm healthcare practice and be a seasoned and sophisticated attorney. Demonstrated success managing in-house counsel in a large, complex, multi-site healthcare organization is preferred. The SVP will have a proven track record of working collaboratively across diverse constituencies and working well in collaboration with skilled outside counsel. S/he will understand and support the importance of the academic enterprise to the overall mission of Cedars-Sinai.

The SVP, Legal Affairs will have operational oversight of Cedars Sinai's Legal Affairs Department providing the highest ethical and quality legal services for Cedars Sinai.

Providing executive leadership on all matters relating to legal affairs.
Overseeing timely, efficient, responsive and professional legal services to Cedars-Sinai. Improving and enhancing the delivery and management of legal services to Cedars-Sinai while maintaining high professional standards for such services.
Identifying all of the major legal subject matters applicable to Cedars -Sinai and delivering through the judicious use of internal and external resources and services in each of these areas. Determining which core competencies are provided in-house and when to engage outside counsel. Partnering with outside counsel to provide the highest-quality of legal services to Cedars-Sinai.
Collaborating with other Executive/Senior Vice Presidents to provide legal services in a manner that supports the business objectives of Cedars-Sinai. Conferring with Executive/Senior Vice Presidents within Cedars Sinai to improve the relationship with and service to each of these areas.
Applying current law and keeping abreast of new law and regulations and advising the President and Executive leadership of the impact on the institution of such changes.
Preparing a legal services budget and being responsible for approving legal services expenditures, including settlements.
Serving as a resource to internal departments for legal guidance (e.g., Corporate Compliance, Risk Management,Technology Transfer and Contracting).
Providing leadership, training, guidance and development as requested by executive leadership and/or the Board.
Establishing processes or practices which encourage the Legal Affairs Department attorneys and staff to continually enhance operational efficiency and service delivery to internal customers.

Law degree from a ABA accredited law school; member of or eligible to join the California State Bar.
An outstanding record as General Counsel or senior healthcare legal partner managing effective and sophisticated in-house counsel in organizations of comparable size and complexity to Cedars Sinai.
A background in healthcare law is strongly preferred.
Effective communication skills in all public and private settings, including strong formal presentation skills.
