What’s The Role About: 

To complement our World-Class technical teams, we are seeking a highly qualified General Counsel who will oversee all legal aspects of our business.  This person will advise Puffco in a variety of legal topics, including devising an efficient Intellectual Property defense strategy; regularly monitoring local, state and federal laws and upcoming changes; and specifying internal governance policies.  They will safeguard our reputation by guaranteeing that Puffco strictly follows law guidelines, giving cross-functional legal advice, ensuring legal conformity, and minimizing the probability of exposure.

Some things you will be responsible for:

Give accurate and timely counsel to all departments in a variety of legal topics (labor law, partnerships, international ventures, corporate finance, etc.)
Devise, implement and advise on efficient global intellectual property strategy
Identify opportunities for IP protection and, provide advice on protection planning by working in close collaboration with R&D 
Render legal opinions with respect to patentability, validity, and freedom to operate, and formulate patent strategies for secure IP positions, Freedom-to-Operate (FTO), and enable IP defense(s).
Provide analysis and advice in connection with legal rights and obligations, deal structure, claims, audits, and other matters.
Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance
Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advise on possible legal issues
Communicate and negotiate with external parties (regulators, external counsel, public authority etc.), creating relations of trust
Draft and negotiate long form agreements, contracts and other legal documents to ensure Puffco’s full legal rights
Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
Conduct your work with integrity and responsibility
Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation
Manage outside counsel drafting, filing, maintaining, and prosecuting patents.
Some qualifications and skills we need you to have:

Proven experience as a legal counsel for a product company
Entertainment, intellectual property, corporate transactions and/or litigation experience at a law firm with 5-8 years combined experience.
Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures
Full comprehension of the influences of the external environment of a corporation
Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
High degree of professional ethics and integrity
Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information
Outstanding communication skills
BSc degree in Law or J.D. degree
MA or BSc in Business Administration will be considered an advantage
Must be an active member of the California Bar.
Must be a team player, who approaches problem solving by seeking collaboration and solutions. Pursues everything with energy, professionalism and drive for excellence.
Must be comfortable in a startup environment
