Role:

Vital Proteins is looking for an experienced internal General Counsel to join our team! The role will be responsible for consulting and guiding Vital Proteins on a range of legal matters and projects, including contractual review, intellectual property, trademark review, lease review, and employment law. This position serve will as a trusted advisor to the CEO and leadership team, and an integral part of Vital Proteins’ growth. The role will operate out of our West Loop office and report directly to the CEO.

What you will be responsible for:

Acting as internal counsel for Vital Proteins on a range of legal matters including but not limited to: intellectual property, leasing contracts, supplier and vendor contracts, employment law/issues
Advising on executive compensation matters, including equity and cash incentive plans
Working with department heads on intellectual property and trademark compliance
Overseeing ongoing, or threatened litigation and liability exposure
Ongoing maintenance of M&A data room
The knowledge of corporate sales and local tax issues, including nexus considerations - understanding impact and able to advise on best practices
Selection and management of outside counsel as needed
Contract tracking and document storage
Communicating complicated legal issues to senior management
Who you are:

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, and licensed to practice in Illinois
5+ years of experience in a related field
Prior in-house experience a plus
Strong analytical and writing skills
Working knowledge of financial statements and processes
Ability to work cross-functionally and cross-departmentally
A strong communicator with the ability to build trust and rapport at every organizational level
