The NBOME is seeking a full-time General Counsel responsible for advising the NBOME on legal matters. The
General Counsel provides effective advice on company strategies and their implementation, and is directly
involved in complex business transactions and negotiating critical contracts on behalf of the organization. This
role will develop innovative solutions for difficult, complex, and systemic problems that may have precedentsetting
implications for the institution. The General Counsel participates in all Board and Executive Committee
meetings to report on legal issues, provide legal advice, and provide guidance on corporate bylaws, articles
and governance.
Responsibilities:
 Testing Accommodation activities including committee meetings, review of TAC consent agendas, legal
review and editing of decision letters, updates on current cases, guidance on TAC applications and
reconsiderations.
 Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs and
provide continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and on legal implications of all matters.
Provide advice and counsel on a broad range of legal topics including: labor and employment law,
contracts, subpoena responses, court orders, intellectual property, research compliance and risk
management strategies. Provide guidance on corporate bylaws, articles and governance.
 Complete legal review of contracts including drafting, negotiating and enforcing.
 Review and update legal content for the COMLEX-USA and COMVEX Bulletins of Information.
 Conduct litigation as necessary. Manage litigation, administrative claims, or other legal claims. Manage
all legal cases including initial response, writing briefs, researching cited cases, deposition and court
hearings in coordination with legal counsel from insurance companies.
 Other duties as requested by supervisor or senior leadership staff.
Requirements:
 Juris Doctorate degree (JD)
 7-10 years of corporate legal experience with testing organizations, higher education, or a related
industry
 Experience with legal research and writing
 Experience in litigation matters
 Experience working with a regulatory agency, law firm or in a corporate environment, preferred
 Must be licensed to practice law
 Working knowledge of ADA test accommodations
 Demonstrated decision-making abilities
 Computer proficiency, including Outlook, Excel, Word
 Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail
 Strong oral presentation skills, strong writing skills
 Must be available to work evenings and weekends as necessary; travel to Board and Executive
Committee meetings 4x/year and other location(s) as needed. Available for evening teleconferences.
