General Counsel

But we’re just getting started.

The General Counsel will be responsible for building and empowering our Legal team, setting legal strategy, overseeing key deals and relationships, and serving as a partner to the rest of the company. Plaid has a complex legal function, and your purview will span across product, regulatory, commercial, international expansions, privacy, corporate, IP, employment, policy, and compliance. And beyond just the legal function, we’re looking for a business partner who will have input and influence across the company, and who will serve as a key member of Plaid’s leadership team.

Build, lead, and manage a high-performing Legal team that aligns with the needs of a rapidly growing, global organization. Likewise, grow and empower an outcomes-oriented Compliance function to match the scale of our business.

Oversee and help develop our legal strategy for a wide variety of product, regulatory, and commercial opportunities.

Advise our leadership, product, revenue, and other teams, and help us understand when to take risks, how to mitigate them, and when to avoid them. Bring your deep experience and product knowledge to bear to give appropriate recommendations based on the context.

Interface with our key partners (including customers, partners, banks, and regulators) to advise on regulatory and privacy-related issues. Collaborate with our policy team to help build and manage our policy and regulatory relationships.

15+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally gained at a well-regarded law firm followed by senior in-house roles at late-stage technology companies; General Counsel experience is preferred.

Proven experience building and leading teams in high-growth environments. A strong track record of positive outcomes for those you have hired + managed in the past.

Background working in a regulated industry, and the ability to quickly learn the nuances of financial services regulation. Specific financial services experience is preferred but not required.

Excellent communication and project management skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines, sometimes beyond normal working hours.

Shipping-oriented mindset, focused on achieving results quickly.
