Provide legal advice, consultation, and policy analysis and interpretations of numerous areas of law and policy, and conducts research and analysis to provide policy recommendations.                    

Responsibilities
Provide analysis, advice and counsel for complex legal issues.
Prepare and reviews legal documents, including but not limited to governing documents (e.g., articles, bylaws, etc.) and agreements in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations and policies, and in accordance with relevant legal relationships.
Participate in the supervision and preparation of defense in litigation matters, working directly and independently with outside counsel to develop the defense/briefs, and overall litigation strategy.
Manage outside attorneys, legal group and claims management.
Actively partner in execution of corporate M&A, business development, and partnership transactions.
Contribute creative solutions to provide pragmatic legal solutions to complex business matters
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Experience in the maritime industry preferred.
Experience with, and strong understanding of, corporate law, contracts and associated laws.  Ability to draft and understand complex contract documents, write reports and business correspondence.
Excellent business and legal judgment with an ability to provide strategic value as a true partner. 
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal clients (e.g., office staff and vessel crew members), external partners, and other stakeholders including our board of directors.
License to practice law, preferably in Washington state, and membership in good standing with state bar association, preferably Washington.
Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
Must be able to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over telephone.
Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port.
Valid Washington State driver’s license preferred.
Expected Hours of Work
Normal office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
May be required to work extra hours to meet deadlines for projects when needed.
Takes communications 24 hours a day, including weekends, concerning changes in schedules and conditions.
