Sotheby’s Financial Services is seeking a senior attorney admitted to the New York State Bar and based in New York to lead the legal team for the Sotheby’s Financial Services business. The attorney will report to the Head of SFS and work closely with SFS Portfolio Managers, clients’ counsel, and the Sotheby’s General Counsel.

SFS is a key focus area for the company and this will be a critical leadership role as new opportunities, regions, and growth areas are assessed.

Sotheby’s Financial Services is the only full-service art financing company, operating as a niche lender with the ability to tailor financing packages for clients who wish to obtain access to liquidity from their art assets. SFS leverages the art expertise of Sotheby’s, skill in international law and finance, and access to capital to provide art collectors and dealers with financing secured by their works of art.

Responsibilities

Draft, negotiate, and review term sheets, loan agreements, guarantees, security documents, auction consignment agreements, private sale agreements, and other commercial agreements governed by New York

Work with Sotheby’s attorneys in London, Paris, and Hong Kong, and, where applicable, outside counsel, to draft, negotiate, and review transaction documents for cross-border

Work with the SFS Managing Director and SFS Portfolio Managers to efficiently structure bespoke finance transactions for clients in multiple

Liaise with other control groups within Sotheby’s, including the legal, compliance, and

Create and update SFS agreement forms and

Ensure that SFS’s and Sotheby’s policies and procedures are followed and that all transaction documentation complies with company policies and applicable laws and

Review approval memoranda and assist with corporate governance

Provide legal and transactional advice to senior management.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree and admission to the New York State

8+ years of experience in the corporate or finance department of a top law firm; In-house legal experience a plus.

Extensive experience in drafting complex corporate documents.

Exemplary negotiation, interpersonal, verbal and written communication

Organized, methodical, and detail-oriented approach to
