The General Counsel position leads the UCH legal function and supports all legal needs for the organization’s development and growth activities; including general contracting, new site development, contractual relationships, healthcare litigation, malpractice, management services, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and partnership collaborations. Position provides internal legal support of risk and compliance management, contract development, review and negotiation, and liaises with outside counsel when needed.

KEY RESULT AREAS (KRAs)

Support the Chief Executive Officer to interface with stakeholders and sponsors of the organization to provide clear and concise guidance for the organization.

Develop and review contractual agreements in support of organizational growth with new business partners and potential physician employees.

Review of contracts across all departments of the organization.

Serve as Compliance Officer and provides direction and management of the compliance hotline.

Develops, initiates, maintains and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical or improper conduct

Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, develops and implements corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provides general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.

Manage litigation and outside counsel.

Serve as Legal counsel on cross-functional teams for special projects.

Prepare and deliver presentations and agendas for internal and external company meetings in support of legal and business development activities.

Align and prioritize workload in accordance with business strategy and objectives.

Manage Compliance team

Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor required

Master’s level degree or higher-level certification (MBA/ CFA/ CPA) preferred

7-10 years of professional legal experience in healthcare, with direct experience in healthcare litigation, healthcare regulatory, malpractice and transactional law as well as healthcare compliance law.

Demonstrated experience in project management, compliance and risk management, contract development and negotiation, and litigation management.

Experience and strong business acumen including working knowledge of corporate financial statements and billing compliance.

Demonstrated high levels of initiative, innovation, and collaboration.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to navigate through ambiguity and provide a structured problem-solving approach.

Positive attitude and demonstrated flexibility in re-prioritizing projects.

Ability to work effectively in teams and autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Highly proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
