Position Summary

Lotame is actively recruiting for a General Counsel and VP of Privacy to lead its legal, privacy, and compliance functions. The company operates in three regions (Americas, EMEA, APAC). The successful candidate sits on Lotame’s executive team with the need to provide direct guidance and thought leadership on challenging issues related to privacy and regulation both inside and outside the company. The General Counsel is responsible for direct delivery of comprehensive legal services across the organization. This is a multi-disciplinary role. In delivering the legal function, the General Counsel will supervise a staff of two attorneys and work in conjunction with external counsel, its executive team, the product organization, marketing, and engineering organizations in turning regulations around data and privacy into products. Some international travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

Lead business-forward legal function that both promotes and protects the company

Manage internal and external counsel to support departmental objectives

Oversee all corporate legal functions, including technology licensing, litigation, HR, and board governance

Advise executive team on all corporate development and general strategy matters

Supervise, facilitate, and shepherd the company’s largest and most complex commercial contracts and relationships

Lead privacy compliance program and participate in appropriate industry initiatives concerning privacy

Provide timely legal counsel to Lotame’s internal clients worldwide, including Sales, Operations, HR, Finance, and Marketing

Support implementation of scalable contract policies, process and templates for new business initiatives and to expedite contract review and negotiation

Maintain subject matter expertise in areas of privacy and data protection laws - specifically as they relate to digital advertising and ad tech (including state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, CCPA, GDPR and other global privacy laws)

Define, communicate, and monitor the productization and implementation of compliance tools for regulation around privacy in multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications:

J.D.

Active U.S. Bar membership

7+ years of legal experience; 4+ years of in-house experience preferred

Broad, direct experience with a variety of legal matters, including strategic business agreements, commercial contract negotiation, information security and compliance, privacy, corporate governance, intellectual property rights and in helping companies understand and shape government policy / regulations

Experience with legal and regulatory issues in ad tech/digital media space

Experience counseling and advising product and technology teams on regulatory challenges

Strong soft skills and ability to work cross functionally

Adept at advising clients, including senior executives, on complex content- and technology-related legal issues and regulatory matters

Hungry to advise on legal issues with little legal precedent
