This is an opportunity to design our culture, technology, policies, and strategy from early stages, and be a core member of Datavant’s executive team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead corporate legal strategy to promote and protect the company

  • Build an exceptional team and world-class operations

  • Establish a thought leadership position for Datavant at the leading edge of privacy and data liquidity

  • Develop and lead corporate compliance programs and assume ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the company conducts its business in compliance with applicable laws & ethical principles

  • Lead complex business transactions and M&A

  • Ensure effective commercial contracting, IP protection, visa sponsorships (and other HR legal matters), corporate law, and regulatory compliance -- either by direct efforts of yourself, your team, or outside counsel that you manage

  • Lead interactions with the relevant local, state and federal governmental bodies, legislatures, policy influencers, and the community at large

  • Hunger to win, and able to both “do” and “lead”

  • Proven skillset of reliability and dependability -- able to get things done across a broad set of tasks and responsibilities

  • Excited to interact with product & engineering teams and go deep on technical details

  • Excited to interact with sales teams and streamline customer contracting

  • Able to effectively handle challenges that have never been handled before

  • Extremely strategic, creative, entrepreneurial, and self-sufficient

  • Good team player and exceptional communicator internally and externally

  • Scrappy attitude, willingness to take on stretch goals

  • Must be in San Francisco area or willing to relocate

More About Datavant:

Datavant is on an aggressive mission to connect the world’s health data. By eliminating barriers to healthcare data across numerous silos, Datavant will improve the likelihood of success for new drugs, reduce the cost of the drug development process, and help providers deliver better care.

The average person has data scattered across 5+ different primary care physicians, 10+ different specialists or hospital EHR systems, 5+ insurers, 5+ pharmacies...not to mention emerging sources, like wearable tech, genetic profiles, and beyond. That represents a massive amount of data, living in disparate silos. Providing better patient care requires a holistic, integrated view of all of this data, but this has historically been unattainable, largely due to regulatory restrictions, privacy challenges, and the misalignment of the economic incentives of the numerous stakeholders in the complex healthcare ecosystem.

Datavant’s connectivity technology can transform how new therapies are developed, how care is delivered, and how healthcare organizations improve quality and control costs for patients. Because Datavant is designed to help customers build a more holistic and longitudinal view of patient health, its value increases as it is used by an ever growing number of providers, life sciences companies, and risk-bearing entities across the healthcare system.

From a social perspective, Datavant believes that interoperability of health data is the biggest missing link required to unlock the power of big data and AI to saving lives: improving patient care with precision treatments, speeding paths to drug development, and better deciphering value. Datavant believes that plenty of data exists that can be applied to better medical treatments, and plenty of sophisticated analytics and AI exists-- but the biggest bottleneck is making the system work together. Datavant aims to solve this.

Datavant is off to a fast start: founded less than two years ago, it has raised $43 million, signed over 40 paying customers, built the largest health data network ever created (Datavant’s de-identification and linking products power several hundred institutions), and has made several acquisitions. Datavant’s CEO was former CEO of LiveRamp (now NYSE:RAMP), where he built a leading data middleware platform; Datavant’s 40-person team combines exceptional data, technology, and healthcare backgrounds.

Like many San Francisco startups, Datavant is fast-paced, engineering-driven, and focused on challenging the status quo. And yes, we play board games, have free food, and go on team hiking trips. But cultures are defined on how they are different, not how they are the same. Our cultural values define us:

  • We believe in more responsibility, and less rules.
  • We believe that perfect is good, but done is better.
  • We believe that time is our most valuable asset and should never be wasted.
  • We believe in playing to strengths.
  • We believe that feedback is a gift.
  • We work hard. We are hungry to change the world.
  • We should always pass the “mom test.” (Whenever confronted with an ethical decision, you should ask yourself “Would I be proud of explaining my decision to my mom?”)

Principal applicants only. No recruiters or unsolicited outreach please.
