General Counsel

We are looking for a General Counsel who will be a strategic business partner and serve as a key member of our executive leadership team.  Zocdoc’s mission is to give power to the patient, and so the right General Counsel will be a pacesetter within the organization to drive change and positive disruption in the large and highly regulated healthcare industry, while having the highest degree of professional ethics and personal integrity.

What you’ll do:

Serve as strategic thought partner, legal advisor, and team member of the executive leadership team regarding business strategy, commercial transactions, business development and execution.
Proactively and creatively evaluate risk factors impacting business decisions and anticipate legal issues that could impact the company.
Be knowledgeable about and anticipate legislative and regulatory changes affecting the company, especially on industry-specific issues, corporate governance and regulatory affairs.
Recruit, develop and retain a high performing Legal team that effectively collaborates with the rest of the organization. Set performance objectives that are in line with the company’s strategic goals.
Oversee the operations of the legal team to effectively serve the organization’s commercial needs; determine the optimal balance between an internal team and external counsel. Oversee the selection, retention, management and evaluation of outside counsel.
Advise on legal aspects of the company’s financing, including assessing and advising on current and future business structures and legal entities.
Architect and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Advise on corporate governance and compliance matters, including the development and implementation of the organization's policies and procedures
 

What’s required:

15+ years of progressive legal experience working in corporate law with 5+ years working in-house.  Experience with e-commerce, consumer technology and/or marketplace companies that have experienced remarkable scale is a plus
Broad, direct experience with a variety of legal matters, including strategic business agreements, commercial contract negotiation, information security and compliance, privacy, corporate governance, intellectual property rights and in helping companies understand and shape government policy / regulations
Strong negotiating skills across both legal as well as financial/commercial issues
Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures
Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
Good standing with the New York State Bar
Health Care experience (a plus)
