Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a creative, solutions-oriented General Counsel to join our team and become a core member of our senior leadership. They will work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team in ensuring the company’s compliance with laws & regulations domestic and international.

Broadly, there are two prongs of responsibilities to this position: general in-house corporate legal work, and regulatory strategy execution.

For the former, we expect the General Counsel to proficiently advise the CEO and company on standard startup legal matters, including (but not limited to) employee hiring & firing agreements, bilateral commercial agreements, user privacy & terms agreements, and cap-table related corporate legal matters. By and large, this prong of the role will largely resemble most startup general counsel roles

For the latter, we expect the General Counsel to truly flex their regulatory acumen; we have arrived at a regulatory strategy and expect our General Counsel to manage its deployment, execution, and continual revision in light of a rapidly evolving product and policy environment. Crucially, this will likely involve applying for lenders’ licenses on a state-by-state basis — the General Counsel will construct a phased strategy for achieving the necessary licensure and spearhead the process of applying for and maintaining the company’s good standing with respect to those licenses.

Naturally, this individual will need to deftly and frugally manage a network of legal vendors who will facilitate Dharma’s efforts in gaining and maintaining the requisite licensure. Additionally, this individual will need to comfortably develop and maintain trusted relationships with regulators at both the state and federal level.

●  5+ years of experience at an esteemed law firm and / or working in-house at a technology company

●  Breadth of legal knowledge across disciplines relevant to most startups (corporate law, litigations, etc.)

●  A solutions-oriented mindset geared towards growing the business successfully rather than simply policing in-house activity

●  Comfort building active, high-touch relationships with regulators both local and federal

Responsibilities

●  Advising the senior leadership of the company on a breadth of legal matters ranging from corporate affairs to hiring & firing, from litigations to regulatory compliance, etc.

●  Formulating and executing on a phased strategy for attaining and maintaining the relevant licensure we require on a state-by-state (and, if necessary, federal) basis.

●  Managing outside counsel and vendors enlisted in keeping the process of keeping the company compliant

●  Building proactive, high-touch relationships with regulators, both local and federal

●  Negotiating, writing, and executing agreements and contracts on behalf of the company

●  Anticipating unique legal issues and “blind spots” that could have a material impact on the company’s compliance

●  Staying abreast of relevant legislative and regulatory developments in the evolving crypto policy world.

●  Reviewing advertising and marketing materials to ensure that they are in compliance with legal requirements.
