General Counsel

We are looking for an excellent General Counsel to add value to and be the “backbone” of our business. You will ensure that company operates within the law at all times, offer counsel on legal issues, create an effective guardian of the organisation and facilitate business strategies development. The successful candidate will be able to ensure legal compliance and limit risk exposure.

Responsibilities:

Provide expert and strategic legal advice to management
Set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors
Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks
Deal with external parties (regulators, external counsel, politicians, clients)
Attract, develop, direct, motivate and drive performance from team
Draft, review and prepare broad range of sales, commercial and technology contracts, transactions, and agreements that minimize risks and maximize legal rights
Provide legal expertise on regulatory, compliance, and transactional issues including corporate law, capital markets, structured finance, securitization, derivatives, asset management, receivables finance for broker-dealer, asset managers and hedge funds.
Support all internal cross functional teams including Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Operations, Engineering, HR, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
15+ years of experience in the legal field, preferably working in the financial/banking services space, and/or tech space
Expertise in financial services - regulatory, compliance, transactional, capital markets, broker-dealer finance, asset management, etc.
5+ of prior service as a CCO, CLO or General Counsel
Experience with AML audits and development of risk governance framework and compliance programs
Experience with VC backed tech or Fintech companies
Experience with cryptocurrencies preferred
Corporate in-house leadership experience highly preferred
High degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas
BS degree in Law or J.D. degree
