General Counsel

A leading producer of artisanal, cannabis-infused confectionary products in the United States and one of the most recognized and preferred brands in the burgeoning medical marijuana and adult use cannabis industry is looking for a General Counsel to lead their legal and compliance efforts. The company has grown to encompass over a dozen varieties of chocolate edibles, and now mints and gummies, with a loyal customer base throughout hundreds of dispensaries in CA, AZ, NV, IL, and HI. Their artisan confections have garnered multiple awards and recognition in the marketplace including eight 'Best Edible' wins. The General Counsel will spearhead the Company’s ongoing legal initiatives, compliance efforts, along with being the interface with various governmental agencies. She/he will provide legal/compliance consulting and strategic support to the senior management and board. The GC will collaborate with colleagues from diverse departments to provide legal support for all aspect's of the company's business; operational management commercial/contractual matters, intellectual property, corporate and securities issues, employment, tax, marketing, advertising, and other areas.

Required Skills and Experience:

BSc Degree or J.D.
Proven counsel/GC experience in a related business environment
Overall broad/holistic knowledge (corporate law, litigation, labor law,etc.)
Ability to proactively develop legal strategy and objectives
Experience as a compliance officer/manager
Experience in risk management
Knowledge of legal requirements and control (e.g. Anti-Money Laundering, or AML)
High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and gravitas
Proactive instead of reactive (anticipate legal issues or risks, “see around the corner”)

Nice to Have Skills and Experience:

MA or BS in Business Administration a plus
Cannabis Experience
Worked with major policy and advocacy groups (LEAP, DPA)
Has been involved with ongoing conversations from state, local, and municipal law as it pertains to cannabis regulation
Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)
Has developed and managed policies and programs for state and local regulatory compliance, including licensing, permitting, regulatory submissions
Experience with manufacturing operations policies and procedure, distribution operations policies and procedures, cannabis tax accounting, reporting, etc.
