The legal team is seeking a dynamic in house counsel. The successful candidate will report to the President / CEO and work collaboratively with a cross-functional team to meet our scientific goals.

Advises on a broad array of legal issues and risk management for IDRI.
Drafts and participates in the negotiations of a wide range of agreements, including: licenses; sub-licenses; services agreements; consulting agreements; material transfer agreements; nondisclosure agreements, clinical trial agreements; manufacturing and supply agreements; collaborative research agreements; strategic alliances; and others, as necessary.
In coordination with Business & Operations, participates in business development discussions and negotiations.
Develop and implement a patent strategy that is in alignment with business / scientific goal of IDRI and considers third party licensing obligations.
Work with the CEO and IDRI scientists to identify and develop invention disclosures, prioritize patent drafting and filings in the United States and internationally.
Plan and participate in senior management Patent Review Committee meetings.
Manage outside patent counsels.
Provide client counseling and support as needed for patent clearance and IP strategy.
Qualifications
JD and current Washington Bar license are required. Licensed USPTO Patent Attorney is highly desirable.
Experience working in biotech/research field and has a science background /advanced biology or chemistry degree. Experience with Immunology and/or Vaccine development is highly desirable.
Practicing transactional/IP attorney for at least 5 years, with several years of in-house biotech/pharma experience (desirable). Some international experience is a plus.
Demonstrated experience in resolving challenging legal issues and ability to deliver sound, clear, practical legal advice in a business setting.
Understanding of transactional, licensing, IP, and non-profit legal issues.
Excellent written and communication skills.
Ability to influence diverse complex processes and cross-functional personnel, understanding the key business processes and requirements of each.
High attention to detail; highly organized; able to multi-task and prioritize as necessary.
Able to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
Experience working in a nonprofit environment.
