As a Corporate Officer and member of the Senior Leadership Team, the General Counsel will serve as a credible, knowledgeable and trusted resource to the CEO and other senior leaders and help establish the strategic vision of the company. The General Counsel is responsible for all legal affairs of the company, and leads corporate ethic programs, provides the senior executive team members with advice on company strategies and their implementation, manages the legal functions on behalf of the company, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

M&A and Financing: manages all acquisitions and sales.

Contracts: Prepares, reviews and approves contracts and other legal documents.

Litigation: Provides legal opinions and advices, supervises outside counsel in litigation matters.

Claims: Oversees and make recommendations on claims

Labor and Employment: Works closely with Human Resources to monitor compliance with laws and policies and provides legal opinion

Ethics and Compliance: Provides training on business ethics, prepares, monitors and implements Ethics scorecard.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience: Law degree and active law license required. Minimum of 7+ years of working for a law firm or an in-house legal department, or some combination of the two. Background and experience in commercial and personal injury litigation, general maritime law, marine transportation law, contracts, regulatory and administrative law, and environmental law, together with a general knowledge of corporate, real property, labor and employment, insurance, antitrust and tax law

Other requirements:

Independent travel to work and customer locations
