We are seeking a General Counsel who will report to our CEO. As our ideal candidate, you are a seasoned attorney with broad legal experience both in-house and at a leading firm, and you’re comfortable digging into a variety of legal domains. You have experience in start-up environments and are an out-of-the-box thinker. Your peers seek you out for advice and counsel, including on business topics. You have high EQ with the ability to communicate complex points clearly and effectively.

Your Impact

By month one, develop relationships with and understand the needs of key stakeholders on the executive and management teams. Learn about everything Grammarly-related to provide a backdrop for legal decisions and strategy.
By month three, rationalize resources and update processes to deliver on current legal needs effectively and efficiently. Become the point person for everything legal-related.
By month six, develop a functional vision and strategic roadmap in line with Grammarly’s goals.  
By the end of year one, have your organizational vision and plan in place along with one to two initial hires. We expect that with time the legal function may grow to include various specialties.
Talents You Bring To The Team

You embody our E.A.G.E.R. values (Ethical, Adaptable, Gritty, Empathetic, Remarkable).
At minimum 10 years of legal experience, including both in-house and law practice experience.
JD degree from ABA-accredited law school.
Member in good standing of at least one state bar association.
You have a practical mindset and are capable of answering legal questions in the context of a business.
You have the ability to align large groups outside of direct reports around broader objectives and shepherd the group to achieve these goals.
You have experience building and managing a team, and you strive to set your team up for success. You can set clear goals and provide feedback, and you understand how to put people in roles that play to their strengths and capabilities.
