The Vice President & General Counsel for Honeywell Aerospace’s Electronic Solutions Strategic Business Unit (SBU) is responsible for all legal affairs of a $5 billion global business including customer business teams focusing on Safety Systems, Cockpit Systems, Navigation and Sensors, Space and BendixKing products.  This position provides legal counsel and assistance to General Management and the various operating teams to ensure maximum protection of the legal rights of the SBU, and to ensure operations remain within the limits prescribed by law and the business’ contracts with commercial customers, including Original Equipment Manufacturers such as Gulfstream, Bombardier and Dassault and federal governments in the US and abroad.  The individual will serve as a key member of the SBU Executive Leadership Team on matters of strategic importance to the business, establishing key strategic alliances, and risk-opportunity analysis for business transactions.  The position is also a key member of the Honeywell Aerospace Law, Contracts & Export Controls Department and reports to the Vice President and General Counsel of Honeywell’s Aerospace business.  The individual also will work collaboratively with various parts of the LCE team, including the SBU’s team of 40 Contracts professionals that serve as the primary negotiator and administrator of the SBU’s contracts. 

Management of the SBU legal matters across diverse areas of responsibility.

Dispute resolution and litigation efforts and strategy, including management of outside counsel as appropriate.

Supervision and if necessary, participation in, key customer negotiations of all types

Approval of all non-standard terms, critical proposals and other business opportunities

Remaining current with federal, state, and local judicial decisions, laws, and other regulations affecting the SBU’s operations and provide appropriate guidance, particularly regarding Federal Acquisition Regulations and related acquisition regulations and policies.

Working with the Intellectual Property legal team, providing legal guidance and counsel relative to intellectual property including, patent, trade-mark, and copyright matters.

Acting as liaison between the SBU and Honeywell International in legal matters of interest to the Company.

Responsibility for staff competency and development, and driving performance consistent with Honeywell objectives.

Provision legal counsel in a wide variety of matters including employment, environment, safety and health, tax, and procurement.

YOU MUST HAVE:

Bachelor's Degree
Juris Doctorate from a nationally recognized law school
Member of a State Bar
Minimum 9 years of practice in law (law firm, relevant government and/or Corporate experience)
3 years of experience in government contracts law

Strong legal background in relevant legal subject matters, which include aviation law, space law, contract, corporate, commercial, and intellectual property law.
General understanding of litigation, environment, safety and health, government contracts, and employment law.

Possession of, or the ability to qualify for, a US Top Secret Security Clearance
Familiarity with Canadian law
Must have or be eligible for a security clearance due to contractual requirements.
Management of the Business Group legal matters
