Travelzoo is seeking a General Counsel to oversee Travelzoo's legal department and serve as a strategic advisor for all legal matters affecting Travelzoo globally. This role requires an individual with the personal confidence, legal acumen and business savvy to lead the legal department of a dynamic digital media business. The General Counsel will exercise sound judgment and decision making and have general legal expertise in areas such as corporate governance, SEC disclosure matters, complex commercial contracts, data privacy, litigation, employment and intellectual property.

Located at the corporate headquarters in New York, New York, and reporting directly to the Global Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will oversee Travelzoo’s small legal team and when necessary, obtain and oversee the work of outside counsel. As Head of Travelzoo's legal department, this individual will provide senior management and the Board of Directors with sound advice on the Company’s legal strategies and their implementation, as well as the Company’s corporate governance policies and practices. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
•  Lead Travelzoo’s internal legal function, providing expert and strategic legal guidance on all matters impacting the Company across all global markets.
•  Operate autonomously to manage simultaneous contract negotiations, employment matters, IP oversight, data & privacy issues as well as other legal matters that arise across a wide area of business functions and subject matters. 
•  Partnering with the business for corporate transactions and public company disclosures (Travelzoo is a NASDAQ listed company, TZOO) and advise business executives on legal strategy and risks associated with the Company’s business operations. 
•  Ensure ongoing compliance with laws and regulations applicable to Travelzoo’s business and operations. 
•  Lead the structuring, drafting, negotiating, and closing of strategic corporate partnerships, and work closely with the Global CEO, general managers, sales, business development, marketing, and Human Resources to provide sound legal advice to advance the business. 
•  Advise on employment matters, corporate governance issues, regulatory matters, and intellectual property development and protection.

Requirements:
•  J.D. degree from ABA accredited law school. Member in good standing in at least one State Bar, preferably New York.
•  A combination of 10+ years of legal experience in private practice from a well-respected law firm and experience as in-house counsel in a senior role. Candidates with public company experience are preferred. 
•  Ambitious, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and hardworking. Feels a sense of urgency and embraces success. Possesses the highest of ethical standards.
•  Strong business acumen and ability to roll-up-sleeves and get things done. Curious by nature; possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills and has excellent practical judgment.
