Paxful was founded in 2015, and has an established headquarters in Estonia, with additional offices in Philippines and Hong Kong. Due to rapid growth in the past year, we have recently opened a new office in NYC. Paxful is entirely bootstrapped, and we plan to continually expand to markets around the world.

Role Description:

Paxful is seeking a dynamic and driven General Counsel to lead the legal operations and help us navigate and expand our business within the rapidly changing regulatory Bitcoin and cryptocurrency landscape. The General Counsel will work closely with our leadership team, outside counsel, and subsidiaries to ensure that all of our operations are utilizing best legal practices. This person will define and develop corporate policies, procedures, and programs, and provide counsel and guidance company-wide. Lastly, our ideal candidate sees the potential of Bitcoin and has a genuine interest in cryptocurrency.

As the General Counsel, you will:

Proactively identify and mitigate business risks.
Lead regulatory efforts and initiatives.
Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of documents related to sales, regulatory filings, commercial agreements, etc.
Provide strategic legal advice and counsel, and work closely with outside law firms.
Shape the growth and strategy of the company, with a focus on relevant international, federal, and state regulatory/compliance requirements.
Collaborate closely with the compliance department and senior leadership to design, develop, and maintain processes and procedures.
Research state and federal public policy issues, keep abreast of legislative changes.
Deal with external parties (business affiliates, regulators, external counsel, customers).
Manage and oversee the work of outside counsel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications

Minimum of 7 years of experience in transactional or regulatory matters at a large reputable law firm and/or in-house.
Experience with securities, banking regulations, and financial services law.
A JD or LLM from a leading accredited U.S. law school, a license and good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex compliance and regulatory issues to other stakeholders and teams in a clear and concise way. Ability to tailor messaging to a broad set of audiences from varied professional, cultural, and technical backgrounds.
Strong interest in blockchain, cryptocurrency and related financial technologies.
Ability to work in a fast paced environment, handle ambiguity, and shifting priorities.
