The General Counsel is directly involved in complex business matters with regulatory and legislative implications. Responsibilities include: leading corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives, providing senior management with effective advice on company risk mitigation strategies and their implementation, managing the legal function, negotiating contracts, obtaining outside counsel, overseeing their work and managing the spend, and working collaboratively with all company departments to support the needs of a growing company with an underlying commitment to both serving our customers and maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. This position also develops, directs and delivers strategic and tactical public affairs initiatives at the federal and state government levels to affect change.

What you'll do:
Maintain familiarity with requirements of complex federal and state laws and regulations affecting the operation of a multi-state pharmacy, wholesaler and DEA manufacturer
Evaluate and interpret FDA guidance documents, prepare comments and recommend courses of action
Advise executive team on legal matters pertaining to the business
Provide legal counsel and support to the organization on strategic initiatives
Advise leadership and the Board on contract and litigation status, legal risks and business terms of various matters and recommend workable paths forward
Participate in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs
Represents Company in legal proceedings including in federal/state court and local agencies (in coordination with outside counsel, if necessary)
Select, retain, manage and evaluate outside counsel as necessary, direct work to outside counsel performing legal, regulatory and legislative tasks.
Conduct internal audits of company and programs to ensure full compliance.
Provide strategic leadership for government related initiatives, collaborating with the CEO, Director of Business Development, and federal and state lobbyist to ensure prescribers and patient access to compounding medication
Who you are:

You’ve demonstrated the ability to work in an entrepreneurial environment and navigate through corporate legal issues by bringing a wealth of legal knowledge and wisdom to the leadership team and organization
You have a business acumen, including a well-developed ability to think strategically and synthesize complex legal issues and present innovative solutions
Experienced with contracts, licensing, compliance, litigation and other legal processes
Have knowledge of laws and regulations affecting the operations of a healthcare company
Have exposure to and/or familiarity with the following areas of law preferred: HIPAA, DQSA, 503a, 503b, DEA, wholesale distribution and OSHA
Experienced working on matters of corporate governance and with a board of directors
Demonstrated strong management and leadership capabilities
Possess action oriented enthusiasm and “self-starter” qualities enabling management of responsibilities with an appropriate sense of urgency
You’re detail oriented with superior written and oral communication skills, including the ability to succinctly explain (orally and in writing) complex business, legal, regulatory and compliance issues to various audiences
Ability to travel up to 25%
What you've done:

Had eight to ten years of experience in the corporate environment, preferably in pharmaceutical, chemical, life sciences or related industry
Obtained a J.D. Degree from an accredited higher education institution and a current license to practice law.
Bonus points:

Prior experience in General Counsel role
Knowledge of pharmacy compliance preferred
Graduate or undergraduate degree in the sciences or public policy or related field a plus
