General Counsel (Oakland, CA)

You want to help fix that, by serving as Even's General Counsel and first legal hire. You will be a key member of the Executive team and will be responsible for all legal, regulatory and compliance matters at the company.
You Will
Define and execute the legal and corporate strategy behind all company initiatives
Advise our teams on issues related to corporate governance, risk, disputes, compliance, and other legal matters. In particular, you’ll work very closely with the Executive team, as well as the Finance, HR, and BD teams
Prepare and review commercial contracts, partnership agreements and other documents for day-to-day business transactions
Interface with and manage multiple outside law firms
Work closely with the product and engineering teams in designing the regulatory and compliance requirements of new products we build
Ultimately, scale up a sophisticated legal department

Some Things That Might Make You a Great Fit
You have at least 5 years of experience practicing at top law firms as a corporate lawyer (bonus: you’ve spent some time at a high-growth startup so you already understand the culture, level of risk tolerance and priorities)
You have a JD and are a member in good standing of the California State Bar or are eligible to register as in-house counsel in California
You have the ability to multitask, manage your time effectively, and prioritize and re-prioritize based on changing business needs
You have a familiarity with venture fundraising, stock based compensation, and relevant tax issues
You have the confidence to assert contrarian views while maintaining an appetite for measured risk necessary in a growth business
