General Counsel & Head of Operations, Financial Inclusion

The Financial Inclusion team at Omidyar Network www.omidyar.com pursues venture investments in innovative technologies that promote financial health and inclusion globally. We believe that when people are able to save, send and receive money safely, and have access to affordable credit and insurance services, they are better positioned to protect themselves from economic shocks, build assets, and invest in a better future.  We leverage our capital principally through venture investments to test and scale innovative solutions.  In order to expand our understanding and positively influence the global financial services ecosystem, we selectively deploy grant dollars.  Our portfolio includes companies working across several geographies and subsectors. Recent activity includes investments in companies such Chime, Kin, United Income, eCM and Propel and policy or research grants to industry-building institutions such as Center For Financial Services Innovation (CFSI) and Aspen Institute to identify optimal structures for regulatory sandboxes worldwide.

GENERAL COUNSEL & HEAD OF OPERATIONS POSITION SUMMARY:

Our GC & Head of Operations plays a high impact role in our success.  A combination of creativity and ambition will be critical in partnering with the rest of the financial inclusion team to build a global sector-change oriented investment firm.  We imagine the following responsibilities in this newly created role:

• Design a portfolio company onboarding and ongoing portfolio engagement program
• Identify key stakeholders and partners to facilitate portfolio company programs 
• Help to lead the firm’s investment portfolio management process
• Manage the internal and external portfolio reporting
• Collaborate closely with legal and finance functions
• Contribute to the firm’s overall success

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Sharp communication skills including excellence in writing and presenting
• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and executives around the world
• Desire to build something from scratch and wear multiple hats
• Desire to travel and serve as an ambassador to our portfolio teams
• MBA or JD
• 15+ years business skills, with 5+ years in one or more roles managing internal operations at an investment fund or start-up
• Management consulting a plus
